Reporting Dependency, Abuse, and Neglect:
DCBS Hotline: (800) 752-6200 between 8:00 – 4:30 pm
DCBS After-Hours Hotline: 1-877-597-2331 after 4:30pm or on DCBS furlough days
Crimes against Children: (859)258-3690
Web Based Reporting System: https://prd.webapps.chfs.ky.gov/reportabuse/
Prior to calling, be sure to have the following information available to when calling DCBS or CAC:
Student name
Student date of birth and age
Student address
Parent/guardian information
Phone numbers of parent/guardian
After providing this information, the intake worker will ask you for whatever information that the child reported to you. Please note that the district now requires employees to make DCBS reports verbally and to have a fellow employee be present while we make the DCBS referral. We are to document who witnessed us make the referral.
Don’t forget to document the intake worker’s name as well as the hotline ID number given to the referral. This number allows you to easily follow-up to see if the referral was taken. Also, the report date, student’s name, your name, the name of the employee who witnessed you making the report, the intake worker’s first name, and hotline ID number need to be logged into the DCBS reporting binder stored in the student support services office area.
If a student discloses something concerning to you that you feel is reportable, please do not interview the student or try to ask questions to get additional details. DCBS and Crimes Against Children have indicated that school staff have unintentionally interfered with and created obstacles to the formal agency investigation process by asking too many questions or inappropriate questions.
